ENTERTAINMENT // EASOP
Leilani: Thanks for taking the time to chat with us. How are you?
Easop: I'm doing fine. Things are good and I'm as driven as ever. Determined to succeed in life, in business, in reaching my goals, and being the man GOD would have me to be in spite of my past failures and mistakes.

Leilani: Please introduce yourself.
Easop: My name is Easop. I was born and raised in San Francisco's Visitation Valley. I am a man of faith who aims to inspire, motivate, and be an example of faith and success. I am also a single father of three.

Leilani: Tell us what inspired you to do what you do.
Easop: I've always loved music, especially hip-hop. My inspiration comes from my experiences and my ability to tell a story with words. After learning how the music business works, I figured I should throw my hat into the ring by starting my own company, a company where I have control of my creativity and the direction in which I should take it.

Leilani: Tell us about your company LOD.
Easop: LOD stands for Life or Death. In life we make life or death choices everyday. Also, GOD created us with the ability to choose and didn't make us robots. So LOD is a way of life, and about making decisions, even when it comes to faith. Our goal with the music we produce is to bring life to the streets, and our listeners thru the message in the music. I like to call it, "street gospel."

Leilani: What genre does your music fall into?
Easop: Our genre is a genre within a genre if that makes sense. The genre is hip-hop/rap. Within hip-hop, you have different styles of the genre. Some have called my style of music "gospel rap", some call it "holy hip-hop." If I had to call it something, I would call it "street gospel.” At the end of the day, to me, it's just hip-hop. I just happen to be an artist whose music reflects his faith.

Leilani: What is the best part of doing what you do?
Easop: The best part for me has been the people you meet and the relationships you build with people from all over the world. That's priceless! Also, touching people with the music and inspiring them in a positive, life changing way. The worst can be the clicks, and people not wanting to network for a mutual benefit because they don't want anybody else to out shine them when that's not what it's about.

Leilani: What projects are you currently working on?
Easop: I'm currently releasing a couple of singles leading up to my 3rd album. The industry is a single's driven industry now. The first single is "You've Been Waiting" which will be out this month and available everywhere music is sold online.

Leilani: Any advice for an up and coming artist or group that want to get into the music business?
Easop: Have a plan and know what your particular niche is and work it. The music business is an incredibly difficult landscape to navigate. So you have to have a plan and know what makes you unique as an artist. Also, don't give up. Keep pushing no matter what.

Leilani: Do you have any regrets about any of the choices you have made concerning the music business?
Easop: I'd be lying if I didn't say yes. I would have been more careful with how I spent money. I burned thru a lot of money to be an independent label. I thought certain things were important that didn't generate the results I wanted, but I looked good doing it. I would have focused more time, energy, and money into radio. I also would have spent more money to set up a lot more tours and securing sponsors.

Leilani: If interested artists, groups or just fans want to reach out to you or keep updated with LOD, where do they go?
Easop: They can go to easopmusic.com or lodmusic.net and join the mailing list. They can also follow me on twitter of course at twitter.com/easop.

Leilani: Any shout outs?
Easop: Everyone who's down with this movement. My beautiful kids Easop II and Essence. To my LOD comrade, Don Clay, who's been in the trenches with me thru the ups and downs.
