ENTERTAINMENT // TASCHE
Leilani: Blessings and How are you?
Tasche: Blessings to you also lady. I’m doing great! Things are moving along very well. Earlier this year I released my second full length CD “Tasche…A Love Worth Fighting For”. I am preparing for some European performances and I just finished producing a Christmas album with a lot of great artists on it that will be available the first week of December.

Leilani: Please re-introduce yourself and tell our audience what you do?
Tasche: Sure, my name is Tasche. I’m an R&B/Soul independent artist. I released my first solo debut CD “From The Soul” in March 2008. After a few months, I got a distribution deal with a company in Japan named Diskunion. Later that year, Tony Brignull asked to distribute “From the Soul” and air my music on his radio stations in London and the UK. In February 2009, I put a band together and started booking myself. That year, I booked over 60 shows at clubs, restaurants, festivals and private parties. In one year I managed to reach over 800 local fans and this year, at my last count, I now have over 6000 fans worldwide.

Leilani: What has happened with your career since the last time we spoke?
Tasche: Well, let me see, the first interview we did was in August 2009. Yeah, a lot has happened, to say the least. As a producer, I’ve been very busy in the studio with many different projects, artists and songwriters. Some I hope you will hear from very soon. In regards to my artist career, I feel like I’ve really got a team that can help me take things to the next level. So, after I completed my second full length CD “Tasche…A Love Worth Fighting For”, I hired a great entertainment manager by the name of James Edmond. We started talking about how we could best promote and market this project. We decided to hire an international marketing firm and focus on building more of an audience overseas. So, here we are.

Leilani: Tell us about your next goal going to Europe
Tasche: I’m really excited about it. The marketing company we hired will be doing all kinds of things like marketing my new CD all over the place, promoting shows and booking performances. We’ve had several meetings with the professionals that will be doing the work. I’ll be going solo, putting a band together in each country and playing different venues in Paris, London and Amsterdam.

Leilani: What’s been the hardest part about the music game and also tell us whats been the best part(s)?
Tasche: Oh yeah that’s easy. The hardest part to me is reaching fans! What I’ve noticed is that the key is as an artist, what you really want to get good at is reaching people who dig what you’re doing and totally feel your vibe. It’s funny that, as an artist, I’ve experienced things at shows like somebody already being into me because they like my look or vibe and they haven’t heard me sing or play a note yet. Which is cool! I love it. I personally think my fans are the best people in the entire world! As for the best part, that’s an easy one for me too – a lively audience. That’s it! There’s nothing like giving the best you’ve got on the stage and the people just giving it right back to you. It’s truly one of the most gratifying and humbling feelings in life.

Leilani: Whats the sweetest or most memorable thing a fan has done for you or to you?
Tasche: Okay, I always put a wedding song on every album I make. On my first CD it was “You’re Everything To Me” and on my new CD it’s “ Today”. I usually perform the uptempo songs at shows but I’ve gotten really good at reading the audience to feel what song I should do next; it keeps things fresh. Well at this particular show, I told the band to take a break and I performed a solo version of “You’re Everything To Me” with just keys and vocals. After I finished, a young lady walked up to me with tears in her eyes and told me that she loved that song so much that she wanted me to perform it for her wedding as she walked down the aisle. Of course I said yes. It’s always very rewarding when people tell me they love my music. It’s like they love a part of you.

Leilani: Who have you worked with and who are you currently working with?
Tasche: Recently, I just finished a Christmas Cd entitled Lovie Perry and Friends: A Christmas Celebration. Lovie Perry is a great songwriter and the gospel and R&B artists on it are all super talented. Byrd Duckett, Brother Phil, Victoria Robinson, my mom Gayle Adrienne Kryor and I are the vocalists on it. I think the two things I love the most are that my mom, who is a phenomenal vocalist in her own right, and I sang a duet together and the other is that I’m scatting. Honestly, I didn’t even realize I could do it until I started playing around. I really love how the album came out. The project turned out great.

Leilani: Is there anyone you would like to work with? Who and Why?
Tasche: Yes. I really like Lalah Hathaway. I like her singing and I dig her vibe. She’s very musical and I think our voices would blend well together.

Leilani: Tell us more about your current project
Tasche: Let me see, where do I start? Well I wrote, arranged, sang and played every instrument you hear on the entire album after a very bad breakup. It’s funny when I look back on it now. My heart was broken and I just threw myself into it. I guess it was kinda like therapy. I had all this stuff in my head and in my heart I wanted to say and music was the medium I chose to use to convey it. I just had to get it out. This album is very conceptual. It talks about the hope of love, the euphoria of being in love and the devastating feeling of loss of love. It’s very close to my heart. Trust me when I say I meant every word you will hear on it.

Leilani: Whats different with this project verses your first or other projects?
Tasche: This new project is very conceptual. Whereas the first one was more a collection of songs rooted in R&B but influenced with different genres. The first album had a funkier feel to it. The new CD is more mellow toned. The title itself speaks to the feel of it. I called it “Tasche…A Love Worth Fighting For” because how I felt day to day would be so different. For example, the first song on the CD is called “Believe in Love” which is Tasche looking for a love worth fighting for. Whereas a song like “Memories” is Tasche discouraged about finding a love worth fighting for. You get me? Every song on this CD relates to the title that same way. That’s why it was very easy to do in some ways and very difficult in others. I completed the whole project by myself from start to finish in six months. I’m glad I was able to get it out and let it go the way I did.

Leilani: What’s next for you?
Tasche: In a word: Europe. I’m excited about going and nervous at the same time. It’s a big leap for me. Honestly, I’m actually still raising the funds to go. It’s been a very eye opening experience. Some people I didn’t even know before this have been super supportive and others that I thought I could count on have just petered out. I’ll be going by myself and building everything from scratch with the hope that people like what I’m doing enough for me to get things off the ground. It’s very unnerving. It’s something that I need to do for myself. Whatever happens by going and doing my best, I will be true to myself. I believe in myself, I believe in the music and above all, I believe that with God, all things are possible.

Leilani: If folks want to contact you to support you and keep updated, where do they go or what do they do?
Tasche: Why yes! (He chuckles) I have an indiegogo campaign running right now. For anyone that wants to help, they can go to www.indiegogo.com/tasche. For anyone that would like to keep updated with what’s going on with me, they can go to www.reverbnation.com/tasche. If someone wants to know more about what I do, they can go to my website at www.taschevibe.com. Also, they can go to my Facebook musician page at www.facebook.com/taschemusic and “like me”. Every little bit helps. I’d really like to encourage anybody and everybody to comment on my Facebook and/or email me any ideas you have. Feel free. I always respond.
